People’s Credit Union Joins NEMIC Corporate Membership as 13th Member

PROVIDENCE, RI - We’re excited to announce that People’s Credit Union has joined our cohort as NEMIC’s 13th Corporate Member. This partnership reflects a shared commitment to strengthening Rhode Island’s innovation economy and supporting entrepreneurs who are building the next generation of healthcare and life science solutions. People’s Credit Union has a long-standing reputation for investing in local communities, and their decision to join NEMIC underscores the critical role financial institutions play in enabling innovation to thrive.

As a corporate member, People’s Credit Union brings valuable perspective and resources to NEMIC’s ecosystem of founders, clinicians, researchers, and industry partners. From early-stage startups navigating growth to more mature companies preparing to scale, access to trusted financial expertise is an essential part of the commercialization journey. People’s Credit Union’s involvement will help deepen connections between innovators and the practical tools needed to turn promising ideas into sustainable businesses.

With roots dating back to 1922, People’s Credit Union has spent over a century rooted in the philosophy of “people helping people,” building not just financial products but genuine relationships with individuals, families, and businesses across Rhode Island. From its beginnings in Newport to a network of branches across the state, the organization has stayed true to its cooperative, member-owned vision— prioritizing people over profits and local impact over shareholder returns.

People’s Credit Union’s purpose, to be a catalyst for positive change in the community, drives both how it serves its members and how it contributes to Rhode Island’s broader economic and social wellbeing. Beyond everyday banking, the credit union is actively involved in community development through sponsorships, donations, volunteerism, and partnerships with local nonprofit and civic organizations, focusing on areas like economic growth, education, health & human services, youth initiatives, and environmental stewardship. Their staff’s volunteer efforts, including coordinated “Day of Purpose” service events, reflect a deep, hands-on commitment to community support that goes far beyond traditional financial services.

People’s Credit Union also recently launched the Small Business Collective, an initiative to cultivate connection and empower entrepreneurs across Rhode Island.  Based in Middletown with statewide programming planned, Small Business Collective (SBC) will offer collaborative workspace, community-centered events, and authentic engagement opportunities designed to help small businesses of all stages and industries succeed. By fostering an inclusive and supportive environment, SBC ensures that entrepreneurs have access not only to the tools they need to grow, but also to a network of peers and mentors who believe in the power of collaboration.  With SBC and PCU’s alignment in supporting local entrepreneurs, it makes the new corporate membership with NEMIC a powerful opportunity for collaboration that benefits innovators, founders, and the community alike.

We’re proud to partner with an organization that believes in the power of collaboration and local impact. Together, NEMIC and People’s Credit Union will work to accelerate innovation, foster meaningful relationships across the ecosystem, and ensure that Rhode Island remains a place where bold ideas can become real-world solutions. Please join us in welcoming People’s Credit Union to the NEMIC community.
