Chungnam National University Visits the Thriving MedTech Ecosystem in Rhode Island
Thursday, April 18, 2019 – A Korean delegation from our global partner, Chungnam National University and the Chungnam National University Hospital visited Rhode Island on their tour of well know innovation hubs in the United States. Their goal was to learn about Rhode Island’s thriving MedTech ecosystem and how they can partner with organization, universities, and government entities in the state.
The delegation, comprised of Deog-Seong Oh, Ph.D., President of Chungnam National University, Jun Heon Lee, Ph.D., Yong-Ho Park, MD, Ph.D., Min-Woong Kang, MD, Ph.D., and Young-Seak Lee, began their tour of Providence Thursday morning with breakfast and a tour of NEMIC’s MedTech innovation center. NEMIC Managing Partner, Aidan Petrie sat down with the group to discuss how we innovate in the MedTech space and why Providence is the perfect location for NEMIC and MedTech entrepreneurs and startups.
NEMIC facilitated the tour of key Rhode Island organizations for healthcare innovation. The first introduction was to Lifespan Health System’s President Timothy Babineau, MD and the Executive VP of Physician Affairs, John Murphy.
The group then visited the Rhode Island State House to meet with Secretary of Commerce, Stefan Pryor and members of the Rhode Island Commerce Corporation. The group is now working on the best way to form a partnership between Rhode Island and the University to accelerate foreign innovation in the United States.
The delegation ended their day with lunch and a tour of medical device developer Ximedica on the west side of Providence.
