We are excited to announce that we have recently accepted 4 startups into the Activate program. Through Activate, Rhode Island based startups (or startups planning to locate to RI) can apply to be awarded professional services valued between $20,000-$37,000 to fill gaps in their business plan in preparation for successful fundraising. Applications are still open and considered for the program on a first come first serve basis.

At the beginning of February, we launched our new podcast series, in collaboration with The Rhode Pod, #MedTechMonday. Through this weekly series, we aim to cover Med Tech trends, innovation, entrepreneurship, technology advances, and opportunities for Med Tech entrepreneurs through NEMIC and the evolving Med Tech ecosystem here in Rhode Island.

After working for a large company for more than a decade, Dom Messerli was on his own for the first time in 2016.

He’d just launched a medical-technology startup out of his Bristol home specializing in spinal implants. A lot of work remained between the implant concept and the market, including clearing regulatory hurdles, and Messerli felt isolated.

“I was struggling, because I didn’t know anyone in the field,” he said. “I felt like I was this lonely guy in the medtech industry, and I just didn’t feel that there was anyone … who was doing the same thing.”
