Softball Recap: 5 Startups Knock It Out of the Park

October 25th, 2019 — New England’s premier Med Tech venture studio, the New England Medical Innovation Center (NEMIC) hosted its second Softball Pitch Event on the evening of Thursday, October 24th, 2019. Softball is an invite-only “soft” pitch event with an overall goal to introduce NEMIC-vetted startups to a group of local Med Tech focused VC’s, Angels, and investors.

For the startups, it is a rare opportunity to begin creating relationships with local investors and allow for feedback that will prepare them for pitching down the line. For investors, they get to create relationships with NEMIC-screened startups, streamlining the process of discovering startups that align with their investment strategies.

To be invited, startups must be part of the NEMIC community, their venture must align with an invited investor’s interests, and they are ready or nearly-ready to receive funding.

Softball by the Numbers

To date, 2 out of 10 companies involved with Softball have been invited to pitch at a private investor meetings and 1 raised their first round of funding after using Softball as practice pitch and networking event.

My involvement with NEMIC’s Softball Event led to my company being able to set up the right fundraising strategy and receive sound advice on presenting from investors. Softball’s connections helped us raise $4 mil in our first round of funding.
