Rhode Island HealthTech Companies Fresh Out the Accelerator!
July 5, 2023
Congratulations to eMoglobin, ResusciTech, Just Breathe LLC, Better Beginnings, Equitable Oximeters, HyScope, Lenoss, KT Cath, Carecoach/ Plans4Care, SOMA, KardioStatus, Adelle Diagnostics, Bak and Mermel, Circadian Positioning System, and AdvanceBox for taking their healthcare innovation forward through NEMIC’s 2022-23 Accelerators!
These 15 companies with medical devices and digital health products are charging ahead toward improving people’s lives. During October 2022 and May 2023, NEMIC ran two Rhode Island-based Accelerator programs. Our entrepreneurs addressed topics all the way from neurodegenerative diseases, chronic pain, and post-surgical complications, to urinary infections, biometric racial equity, and panic attacks. The two programs were made possible by Rhode Island Commerce and the Rhode Island Department of Labor & Training. Check out a few success stories below:
KT Innovations
In the fast-paced world of medical technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship go hand in hand. For startup KT Innovations, their groundbreaking journey began with a victory in the 2022-23 NEMIC Med Tech Leadership Program. Buoyed by this success, Katelyn Holt of KT Innovations set her sights higher and entered the DLT Accelerator program, determined to turn her vision into reality. With a background as a registered nurse at Lifespan Hospital for over a decade, Katelyn had witnessed firsthand the devastating consequences of poorly designed condom catheters. Motivated to create a superior solution that would eliminate leakage, discomfort, and detachment, Katelyn embarked on her entrepreneurial journey a few years back and now with the help of NEMIC and service providers in the area, hope to push her solution further. One primary goal of the Accelerator was to help identify companies to begin the DFM process. The result was multiple manufacturing process drawings, a few different project plans from which KT could choose, and an eventual decision to go with Nova, a local product design partner in the Jewelry District.
Better Beginnings
Better Beginnings, also known as "BB", partnered with NEMIC to bring its digital health platform to families, providing proactive support and expertise in infant developmental health. After understanding BB's needs, NEMIC and the BB team focused on validating the solution and gathering valuable feedback from stakeholders. Working together with Octo PD, NEMIC supported BB's goals by coordinating various experts. We engaged our FDA Regulatory advisor to help navigate the market landscape, a reimbursement advisor to guide them in securing an SBIR grant and reimbursement code, and a talented designer to envision the product and enhance user interaction. While Better Beginnings' journey has just begun, we're eagerly anticipating its next significant milestone. Stay tuned for more exciting updates from Better Beginnings!
