Health Innovator Pathways Program

Free for Rhode Island-based residents, students, companies, and employees.

Formerly known as the MedTech Leadership Program (MTLP), the Health Innovation Pathways Program (HIPP) is NEMIC's flagship education program for healthcare innovators. Designed for entrepreneurs, clinicians, students, researchers, and industry professionals, HIPP supports the development and commercialization of medical devices, digital health solutions, healthcare software, biotechnology innovations, and other transformative healthcare technologies.

The Health Innovator Pathways Program (HIPP) is a comprehensive education program developed and led by the experts at the New England Medical Innovation Center (NEMIC). Built on decades of industry experience and extensive research, HIPP is designed to support innovators across the healthcare ecosystem, including health technology, digital health, software, medical device, biotechnology, and healthcare service innovations.

The program begins with an overview of the healthcare innovation landscape, emerging trends, and key industry challenges before guiding participants through the process of transforming an idea into a scalable solution. Through 55+ hours of expert-led seminars, hands-on workshops, mentorship, and one-on-one advisory sessions, participants gain the knowledge and skills needed to advance their innovations from concept to implementation.

HIPP offers a unique, holistic view of healthcare innovation, covering product development, commercialization, regulatory considerations, reimbursement, leadership, fundraising, and go-to-market strategies. Whether developing a regulated medical device, a digital health platform, a healthcare software solution, or a biotechnology innovation, participants receive practical guidance from experienced industry professionals to accelerate their path to impact.

The Health Innovator Pathways Program was designed based upon firsthand research and interviews with industry professionals, CEOs, venture capitalists, angel investors, and seasoned HealthTech entrepreneurs. (more about our curriculum research here)

The goal was to provide aspiring entrepreneurs and HealthTech professionals with the complete picture of how to bring a regulated medical device or digital health product to market, whilst avoiding the common pitfalls inherent to the commercialization process.
