NEMIC gains Hinckley Allen as latest Corporate Member
With the addition of the prestigious Boston-based legal firm Hinckley Allen, NEMIC is pleased to welcome yet another esteemed institution to our budding Corporate Membership program.
“It’s evident that there is growing appetite for organizations to join us,” said Aidan Petrie, Co-Founder and Managing Partner at NEMIC. “With each passing month, we are seeing more and more interest from institutions that represent Rhode Island’s Life Science ecosystem, in coming into the fold of our Corporate Membership program. We are putting together a network of individuals and organizations that support our growing startup community. Our corporate partners are an important part of that ecosystem.”
NEMIC launched its Corporate Membership program in 2023, with the vision of bolstering the entrepreneurial and life sciences ecosystems in Rhode Island, by procuring a suite of member corporations that support innovation. Hinckley Allen is the sixth member secured since the program’s inception, with the other five curated members representing the financial, product design, QMS management, product development, and life sciences innovation sectors.
Originally established in 1906 in Boston, Hinckley Allen is a law firm that caters to banking and financial institutions, the cannabis industry, construction, education, family-owned businesses, senior living, and perhaps most importantly–healthcare. With prominent local offices here in Providence, Hinckley Allen has earned a reputation as a top provider of effective legal services, with affiliations including USLaw and Globalaw, and has extensive reach across the United States and globally. The firm is known for its unwavering dedication, not only to its clients, but the communities it serves.
Hinckley Allen is a longtime supporter of NEMIC, our mission, and the startups that we work with. One area in which we work closely with HA–and arguably one of the most critical components of HealthTech development–is in legal guidance around intellectual property (IP) and the defensibility of a particular technology. Given the digital age in which we live, there is an increasing prevalence of digital and otherwise computer-based innovation in nascent health technologies. In several cases, the digital/computer-based component may be the singular differentiating component of a technology over its possible like-competitors in a particular space. And that being the case, having protection for the IP either by way of patent protection or otherwise becomes absolutely crucial to both the medical and commercial success of the technology. Hinckley Allen provides NEMIC and our startups with top-notch IP and patent industry knowledge that allows burgeoning innovations to continue on a successful path to market.
As NEMIC continues to expand our ever-growing Corporate Membership program, we look forward to achieving a diverse, formidable group of esteemed corporate supporters who understand the immense value of the work we do, and the impact that work has on real patients in our complicated healthcare system.
